APPOINTMENTS
ARE A MUST
Membership: in the Ashokan Riding Club is for people who have a great love and affinity toward horses and riding. It is geared especially for those who would like to have their own horse, but either they cannot afford it, or have no time to care for it. At the Ashokan Riding Club you are expected to feel and act as if the horses here are yours. You will learn to care for them, ride them properly, and, with the passing of time, you will fall in love with them. With proper planning, and consideration for the horses and the other members, unlimited riding is a possibility. Membership dues, like everything else here are customized to suit your individual needs.

| Trails: One does not have to be an experienced rider to enjoy the pleasure of having a horse take him or her on a pleasant outing. Under strict supervision, on well trained horses, we escort our visitors on a ride that is both fun and educational. The more one learns about equitation the more one enjoys. |

| Lessons – We specialize in teaching beginners. Our methods, proven over a quarter of a century of experience, consist of having our excellent horses teach the students, under the supervision of our instructors. You will enjoy a learning experience that is at once disciplined and pleasant in the beautiful and natural ambiance offered by our farm. Our small ring is about ten acres, safely enclosed by colourful trees and rubber fences. Your first lesson will take you from the ring into the field, down to the river, then up the cliffs into the woods. | |||||||

Training:
" An experienced horse for a green rider, an experienced rider for a green
horse." Is the old adage. Many people have sent their horse to be
schooled by a trainer, and a month or so later, their horse becomes
the proper mount for their needs. Depending on the goals of course, one
can obtain a ride-able horse in one month, but it will take about 4 years
to train a horse for dressage. When it is possible, if the rider has a
reasonable knowledge of equitation, it can be a wonderful experience to
work with the trainer in the schooling of the horse. Whenever possible
this is what we try to do.

Boarding: your horse on our farm should be a pleasant and beneficial to both horse and rider. We try to be discriminating so as to offer our facilities to people who love their horses. We expect them to be thoughtful toward their mounts, and considerate of other riders. Nothing enhances the pleasure of equitation more than belonging to a cohesive group of riders. Just as we do with our students, each border gets individualized attention. The horses will be in their stalls, sheds paddocks or pasture depending on the situation. |

Leasing: In the past riders have chosen to lease a horse for a period of time to satisfy a particular personal need, a vacation, a training period or the summer. We now discoura- ge this practice. Not only is it quite costly to take a horse out of circulation from the club activities, but we found that most lesee do not have the time to dedicate to the horse in order to keep him in the proper shape or training. We therefore advise to talk to us about your needs and we shall do our best to accommodate you. Leasing to the Movie Industry & for Photographic Assignments will be available under separate contract. |
